A side

Finally, after thinking about it for years, and talking about it for months, I´ve decided to actually do something about it, and start a blog… It feels a bit scaring, as i normally limit my writing to legal considerations in my work as a lawyer, and never write about personal things. Well this is not meant to be a very personal blog, at least not in an emotional way, but it will definitely not be handling any legal matters…

So who am I, and what do I want with this blog?
I´m a norwegian female lawyer, and wannabe artist, mother of four, of whom three of them have already passed the Norwegian age of criminal responsibility, and number four celebrated his second birthday only five months ago. I´ve been married to the same man for twenty years, and couldn´t possible be bothered to make any changes to that as long as he´s happy to cook my dinner and change the tires of my car…

Even though being a lawyer pays my bills, in my heart I´m an artist… I love making oil paintings, but as the days normally don´t have enough hours, I hardly ever get to do any painting at home, I do attend to a painting course every now and then to force my self to focus on painting, and be able to prioritize it in a heavy scheduled everyday life. But as soon as the course is finished, all other chores tends to steal the focus again. The only way I manage to be an artist in my everyday life without feeling that i neglect all other more important matters, is to transform my artistic ambitions and dreams into doing something useful; and what can be more useful than providing whoever is in need for it with a cake designed to express the most peculiar interests or desires, or just to decorate the table or live up the party!

I know a lot of people make cakes, and a lot of people make decorative cakes, funny cakes, beautiful cakes, naughty cakes, impressive cakes etc. so what is then special about my cakes?
First of all I have two rules for my cakes that I do not think to many other cake creators have: One is that I never repeat my self, which means that all my cakes are original pieces of art, edible art, but still art:0) The second is that everything in my cakes is edible, I never use anything but food to make cakes, and if I need tripod to support the structure of the creation, I model and use candy for the purpose…

I never use cake tins or stencils, everything is completely handmade! I will of course publish photos of a lot of my cakes (and some of my paintings) in this blog, I might even publish some step to step photos every now and then, but if you want a peek right away, you may visit my website http://www.kunstkakeriet.com
